Looking at my backyard this morning it is really quite ordinary. And yet, when I settle my mind and allow myself to BE in it, Divine messages of love and light pour through me... through all of my senses. The breeze ruffling this haphazardly strewn tarp reminds me that movement is constant... that even when things seem stable there is something always shifting... and that that is okay. The gentle fluctuation of even the sturdy pine lets me know that transition is natural, that movement is a song of growth... that Spirit is continuous and at the same time always evolving through the way these movements blend together, through the melody and the harmony of all that is.
The air is damp and a light mist hangs in it drawing my eyes to the moist earth below, reminding me that there is always nourishment -- that there is always enough, though it comes at different speeds and at different times.... sometimes in a light sprinkle, other times in a gentle downpour. Sometimes there are downright storms that don't feel at all like nourishment, and yet, they are still bringing exactly what our soul is in need of at exactly the right time. When we open and allow ourselves to absorb this rainfall, no matter how gentle or how violent it may be... when we allow ourselves to feel the feelings of whatever life is bringing us and open to the love within that experience calling us to grow through it, new life and new possibility bursts forth-- just as this moist earth before me is soaking in the nourishment of the recent rain and gathering it in the roots of spring blossoms soon to form. For a messy backyard, it is tremendously awe-inspiring when I allow it to be.
Nature has always brought these messages for me.... always the deeper truth that is needed at exactly the right time. And these messages are available for all of us. You may look at this same scene and get a message that is different yet equally empowering for you in exactly the way you need it to be. It is not a matter of knowing how... it is simply a matter of tuning into your senses and allowing those messages to come forth. There's no special training. There's no secret code. There's no right or wrong about what you should be hearing or how you should integrate it into your life. It simply is. Tuning into Nature and the messages it brings you is such an easy and awesome way to stay connected. Because Nature is always present... even in the middle of a busy street in the most overdeveloped city, you will find growth and you will find light. It is only a matter of taking the time to "see" it. Notice the stars on the way to your car. Look up at the clouds as you step out the door in the morning. Feel the breeze. Acknowledge the growth in the sidewalk. Reverently admire that certain slant of light. ALLOW yourself to hear their messages . Make a decision that these messages are important to you. You do not have to retreat into the woods for days or write the next Walden. Just allow yourself to notice things that you have likely been geared to believe are unimportant. These things can bring you peace on a deeper level.
From a young age nature has been my primary source of connection. And for a long time, I believed there was something wrong with me, because of the awe I felt and the messages I received-- because I viewed these things as important. I was constantly battling the connection that I felt and not allowing myself to step fully into it because of what the world seemed to tell me I should be focusing on. In high school they called me "Captain Oblivious" because I was often too engaged in a certain slant of light to notice how hot of a guy was walking by. I was more interested in the message of these deeper truths than in what the social world deemed important, and this contrast was isolating. I imagine that we all have this connection when we are young and that the expectations and pressures of society drown it out for many of us. It can be reclaimed. It is in acknowledging and living through it that your life will change.
Go outside. Take a few deep breaths. And look with intention at the world around you. Let the energy of nature flow through you in the moment, and acknowledge any message you may receive. Bring your awareness to the feel, the taste, the smell, the look, the sound, and let that develop in what ever way is right for you. We take in an immense amount of data through our senses. Your brain has decided what parts to categorize as important. In a world where there is a perceived struggle to keep basic needs met through the constant need to work and earn and plan and avoid drama and maintain relationships, it's no wonder the data we receive through nature is often not registered in the conscious mind. It is there and it is always coming in, it's just not deemed important enough to make it in to the forefront of our consciousness. You can change this. You can bring your awareness to the moment, and allow those divine messages to be perceived. You can choose to process this God-given information and to live through it.
Balance is important. It is tempting to simply retreat into these messages and stay in the peaceful enoughness they bring. I believe that true enlightenment comes from bringing these divine messages back and living through them through a concrete expression in the physical world. Listen to your messages. Ask how can I apply these messages and live through them in the day to day? And how can I share them with the world? You will find balance. You will find peace. You will find truth. You will find your spirit and you will align with it. If you need help with that, you can always call me.
